May to October is the dry season, with cooler temperatures and less rain. Cyclones and heavy rainfall are most common from November to April.

Carry cash, as card payments are not accepted everywhere and ATMs are mostly in main towns. Buses do not run on fixed schedules; be patient and ask locals for timing. There are no trains and only a few domestic flights between Upolu and Savai'i islands. Ferries run several times daily. Local buses are colorful but unpredictable; taxis are affordable for short trips. Renting a car is common, but you need a temporary Samoan driving permit.

Samoan cuisine features root vegetables, taro leaves, fresh fish, pork, and tropical fruit. Try 'oka' (marinated raw fish with coconut cream) and 'palusami' (taro leaves with coconut). Most meals come with rice or taro. Vegetarian options exist but are limited outside resorts. Water safety can be an issue, so choose sealed bottles.
